How to buy wholesale fireworks in Texas

Texas is one of the friendliest states in the country for consumer fireworks retail — but the two selling windows are short and the paperwork is not optional. Here's what a Texas wholesale buyer needs lined up before the first pallet ships.

1. The two selling windows

Retail sales run June 24 through midnight July 4 and December 20 through midnight January 1. Some counties allow extra days around Memorial Day, San Jacinto Day, Cinco de Mayo, and Texas Independence Day. Wholesale orders can move year-round.

2. Permits & insurance

• Retail permit from the Texas State Fire Marshal's Office — apply 60+ days ahead.
• Stand at least 100 ft from any building and 300 ft from a gas pump.
• General liability policy of at least $1M — standard for LPS to release a pallet.
• Signed landowner agreement with the property owner named on the insurance rider.

3. Build the 60/30/10 mix

The stands that clear the shelf every year follow a 60/30/10 mix: 60% mid-tier cakes and 200g repeaters, 30% 500g finale cakes and premium canister assortments, 10% novelties and family fountains. Load the top of the stand with the SKUs buyers ask for by name.

4. Order early, hold reorder budget

Place the primary PO 6–8 weeks before the season and hold 20% of your budget for a reorder in the final 10 days. Every year the top five finale SKUs sell out first — a same-week DFW freight partner turns a stockout into a $10k reorder instead of a lost weekend.

5. Ask the right supplier questions

• "What's the break diameter on your top 12-pack canister?" If they don't know, they haven't fired it.
• "What's your reorder lead time to a Texas dock?" Anything past 10 days costs you the season.
• "Do you ship manufacturer-direct or through a distributor?" Direct is 30–45% cheaper on the same shells.
